AACA Library’s 1955 Chevrolet Bookmobile

AACA Library's 1955 Chevrolet Bookmobile

Our first review is of AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) “Build a Bookmobile”. The set is offered through their webpage (link below) and is a replica of their 1955 Chevrolet Bookmobile. The follow is a description from their website:

"If you love the AACA Library's 1955 Chevrolet Bookmobile, now's your chance to hold one in the palm of your hands. The Build-A-Bookmobile is a custom model using genuine LEGO® pieces. Model includes functional book box doors, a removable top for the cab to seat a driver, and optional build mods with included parts. It measures 6" x 2.5" x 2.5" when completed. You can even order it with your favorite librarians as minifigures. This is a signed and numbered limited release of 55 units, 20 of which can be bought with the minifigures. This product comes complete with professionally printed and designed building instructions, box art, and decals. Don't Delay! With limited production numbers you won't want to miss this deal. This model represents a homegrown effort. The finished build was designed by our Assistant Librarian and lifetime LEGO® fan, Matthew Hocker. Catalog Librarian, Mike Reilly, designed the box art and instruction booklet. Library Director, Chris Ritter, said “make it happen” and here we are today! We sincerely thank you for purchasing the AACA Library’s “Build-a-Bookmobile” custom LEGO® kit. This custom LEGO® kit consists of 100% genuine new and/or used LEGO® elements. It is neither produced by nor associated with the LEGO® Group”.

Our set arrived days within ordering. It was well packaged with the set box inside an outer cardboard box. The set was bubble wrapped and you could instantly tell it was wrapped with care as they wanted to protect this exclusive set from any damage.

The box was beautiful in full color which depicted the set you received. 246 bagged parts waited to be put together inside with easy to read printed instructions that were done perfectly. They were very clear and were on the scale of LEGO type instructions. They were full color in a small compact book that fit inside the set box.

The set went together without difficulty and it included some fun techniques during the building process. It was very well designed and can easily be moved or rolled around without falling apart. As mentioned in their description it has opening doors for play and plenty of room for a minifigure driver.

The printed parts in the pictures are decals - they are not custom printed LEGO parts. While not a fan of decals; it would have increased the cost dramatically so we understood the need for them. They were not the easiest to apply so if your child is building the set; we suggest you assist them during these steps.

The price point of $55.00 is spot on for this set. It includes custom instructions, custom box, decals and includes all the authentic LEGO elements. The “minifigure edition” sold out quickly so we did not have an opportunity to get that version.

Most LEGO minifigure scale vehicles are not detailed, nor should they be, as they are aimed towards a different market. If you are looking to add some realism to your LEGO collection, want to start out with a fun third party set made with authentic LEGO, or just love 1955 Chevrolet’s; look no further than AACA’s custom set.

The sets are still in stock on their website, BUILD-A-BOOKMOBILE but we imagine they won’t be available for much longer! The holidays are just around the corner and this would be the perfect gift for any LEGO fan!

Be sure to look for bookmobile set on LOLUG’s train layout in 2019 as many of our minifigures will be clamoring to check out their next book! Until next time, PLAY WELL!!
